Czech Election

starts today on June 2 2006. The ruling Social Democrats (CSSD) and the opposition Civic Democrats have almost identical support, (28,5% and 27,8%) according to a poll published a week before the election.

The Communist Party who got 18.5 per cent of votes at the parliamentary elections in June, 2002 got 16.7 percent in the poll.

This is the first election since the Czechs joined the European Union in 2004
