Lebanon FreeBEIRUT, Lebanon, March 14 More than 800.000 thousands of Lebanese were gathered Monday in the central part of Beirut, at the Martyr's Square to protest against the Syrian control of their country. This panorama is taken close to the center's square The old ruins in this panorama are Ottoman arcades which used to be the foundation of a small administrative building from the late 19th century. The building was demolished in the late 1940s and the ruins were accidentally discovered in the 1990s during a construction project for an underground parking facility for the Beirut Central District. The archealogical site is now being uncovered and studied along with other important remains around the Martyr's square. ' The panorama was actually taken right on top of an arcade. |
