Oktoberfest in Savannah Georgia - Weiner Dog Race
What the H--- is a Weiner Dog I had to ask when my US friends told me this was the main attraction at the Octoberfest in Savannah last weekend.It turned out that a Weiner is American slang for Dachshund, also called Dachsel, Dackel, Teckel, Badger dog, in Danish Gravhund and in Swedish a Tax, ( I am a Swede but please do not ask me where the name "Tax" comes from)
Another slang name is sausage dog and from that we have a Wiener (sausage) dog or a Weiner.
That the people of Savannah comes up with a Weiner Dog Race is not surpricing.
Savannah is a very unusual US city who presents their city to the tourist from Horse carriages and Bicycle taxis with stories about Ghosts and Crazy people.
To meet more crazy people from Savannah you could see the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" by Clint Eastwood featuring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack. The movie is based on John Berendt's best-selling novel.
And of course my panorama also contains a "Ghost" as this is a true Savannah QTVR.
