The Ball is prepared at Times Square

New Year's Eve at Times Square started as early as 1904 but it was in 1907 the famous Ball drop was introduced from the top of the flagpole of the Times Tower.

The current version of the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball, was designed by Waterford Crystal, and was introduced at the Times Square 2000 Celebration.

The Ball is six feet in diameter, and weighs around 1,070 pounds. It is covered with 504 Waterford crystal triangles in different sizes.
