TESTING QTVR with sprites - logos -previews and hotspots.

Since Quicktime 7 was released QTVR has behaved bad on Mac and also sometimes on PC.

The problem is freezing and jerky panning on movies with different additions especially combinations .

Some of this behavior has also been seen before Quicktime 7 but only on low end Macs.

When the movie loads it freezes completely until it is almost fully downloaded.

If you have a very fast connection you will probably never notice but with a connection of 1K and less this is very irritating.

I destroys completely the idea with Fast Start.

Until I got my new DualCore 2.0 G5 I thought the problem was caused because my 1.0 Powerbook was not fast enough but the problem turned out to be even worse on the G5 with Tiger.

After several days of testing different movies I discovered that the problem only occurs in Safari.

Some searches on Safari and Quicktime problems gave me the answer.

In OSX/Library/Internet Plug-Ins you will find 2 Quicktime plugins

QuickTime Plugin.plugin

QuickTime Plugin.webplugin

It is the same in Panther and Tiger but in Panther "QuickTime Plugin.webplugin" is a folder

If you remove the "QuickTime Plugin.webplugin" Safari behaves perfect with QTVR.

A search for "QuickTime Plugin.webplugin" gives some pages which shows that also some other movies have problems with this.

I have not been able to find what this plugin is actually used for. Searching for QuickTime Plugin.webplugin at Apple gives no pages at all.

Do not trash the plugin. Just remove it to another place so you have it if you should get a problem loading some type of movies.

It seems to me that it is time for the Safari and Quicktime developers at Apple to put their heads together and solve this problem.

It is not fair that Mac users has much worse behavior for Quicktime VR than PC users.

This problem should have been solved long ago.

Below are different versions of the same panorama which you can test it on.

I would also like to hear the opinions from PC users. Are there any similar problems.
